부하에게 정성을..(오기(吳起) 장군 이야기)
손자병법의 제 10장 지형(地形)편에 이런 말이 있습니다.
視 卒 如 嬰 兒 故 可 與 之 赴 深 谿
시 졸 여 영 아 고 가 여 지 부 심 계
부하를 보기를 어린 아이 같이 보고 잘 훈육하면
깊은 계곡까지 함께 가고
視 卒 如 愛 子 故 可 如 之 俱 死
시 졸 여 애 자 고 가 여 지 구 사
부하 보기를 사랑하는 아들같이 보고 잘 가르치면
죽는데 까지 함께 간다.
지휘통솔의 기본은 부하에 대한 정성이라고 했습니다.
부하를 잘 이끌어 목표를 향해 전진하게 만들려면 부하에게 정성을 들여야 한다.

한 병사가 휴가를 받고 귀가하여 어머님에게 말을 하기를 ...
“우리 장군님은 나의 상처에 입을 대고 고름을 빨아주시는 인자한 분이십니다.” 라고 말씀 드리자
그 어머니 갑자기 울기 시작하였다. 아들이 묻기를
“그리 훌륭하신 분을 마음속으로 고마워해야지, 어머니는 왜 우십니까?” 하였다.
그 어머니 슬퍼하며 말씀하시기를
“바로 너의 아버님 역시 그 장군께서 아버님 다리에 종기의 고름을 빨아주셨다. 그 분이 위기에 처했을 때, 그 장군님을 구하시려고 용감히 싸우시다가 적의 칼에 맞아 돌아가셨다.
너도 그 분을 위해 싸우다가 죽을 터인데 이 어미 어찌 눈물이 안 나겠느냐?”
과연 그 아들은 전장에서 오기 장군이 위기에 처하자 그를 구하려고 용감히 싸우다가 전사였다.
오기 장군은 74전 69승을 하였다.
오기 장군의 부하에 대한 지극하고 대가를 바라지 않는 정성이 전투력으로 발휘되었기 때문이다.

Letters from Martin’s father and fiancee, the guarantee certificate for his engagement ring, the loan documents from a London bank, his personal letter and a promissory note and finally, a picture of his fiancee were planted on the corpse. Major Martin was supposed to have been stationed in London before his departure for this mission. To disguise him as a liaison officer carrying classified documents, they perfectly planted all necessary flying documents. All of the documents were planted in his briefcase, including the fake order to attack Corsica and the appropriate British government certificates. A British submarine released the corpse so that it would float to Spain’s Fuela beach. At the time, the Germans maintained a good intelligence network in Spain. After collecting the body and seeing the uniform and the documents of the supposed British Major, the Germans completely believed the deception. They lightly deployed their forces to Sicily, where the U.S. Army actually intended to land and fortified Corsica. The Allied forces landed on Sicily without heavy casualties. The Germans could never dream that such documents were fabricated. They committed a mistake of not being capable of thinking outside of the box and not being able to break free from traditional rigid German military thinking. There is a saying that a successful strategy should not be repeated. A strategy should be flexible enough to meet changing circumstances and surroundings. A rigid viewpoint and analysis leads to mechanical actions and inflexible thinking. One must push themselves to be flexible. We must cultivate a flexible society that is free to make mistakes, and each individual should strive to become flexible as well. Otherwise, prejudice and self-centeredness will creep in and destroy everything.
